When I Get Heartburn I Know I Am One Of The Lucky Ones

Heartburn and acid reflux are sometimes a problem but I think myself lucky because for me it is something that happens only occasionally. Heartburn is a very uncomfortable and unpleasant sensation that makes people wonder why they are experiencing and they may simply have to cope with occasional acid reflux.

When I get a bout of heartburn I find it can disappear again
almost as quickly as it arrives. But for some people the symptoms of heartburn are a frequent problem they may have to learn to live with.

It is said that the cause of heartburn experienced by so many people is most commonly the failure of the sphincter valve to close in the back of the throat. This valve is supposed to remain closed to prevent acidic stomach gases rising up and making your throat feel like it is burning but unfortunately it sometimes fails and allows the gasses to rise and attack the surface of the throat tissue. This explains the burning sensation felt when the valve fails and we have heartburn and acid reflux symptoms occurring.

If this situation were allowed to continue over a considerable period of time then it could breakdown the protective surface and damage the throat tissue the odd bout of mild heartburn should not usually lead to prolonged health worries. It is important to get a diagnosis and treatment by arranging to visit your doctor to be reassured about your health and be guided accordingly.

We do have some practical options that may help reduce some of the symptoms of heartburn attacks and reduce the frequency of attacks. My own experience is that attacks of acid reflux and heartburn happen when I am tired and it would seem managing to have plenty of good sleep helps a lot.

There are some foods that seem to encourage the problem of heartburn and avoiding coffee can help as may reducing how much spicy food you eat. Smoking may also be a factor which is probably due to the throat suffering the effects of the smoke and adding to the problems.

As with so many conditions and health issues a more balanced and healthy diet together with a regime of exercise and always trying to be sure to have a good nights sleep all goes to help. A healthy lifestyle may reduce the effects of heartburn as well as cutting back the number of bouts you experience of this and the acid reflux symptoms.
